Most organizations require POTS lines in place and as the number of lines add up across multiple locations, the maintenance on these lines can be tedious. Being as POTS lines are based off of copper, they are susceptible to weather, corrosion and tampering. When a phone line goes out to service, customers must open a ticket with their Local Service Provider. The LSP can only run a few tests on the line before they have to dispatch out to test. Depending on the severity (ie. Fire Alarm, Elevator Line) where someone’s life may be in danger, the LSP may not dispatch immediately and when they do, the customer is responsible for escorting them to the telephone room where the lines in quest reside. If the lines are not tagged properly, the technician may be unable to locate the line and this results in back and forth on the outage as most LSP’s do not provide Inside Wire Maintenance unless subscribed to. The customer is then responsible for finding a vendor who can come out and tag/locate all the lines.
